Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv and The Fellowship of the Masters of Folk Crafts - Plovdiv are pleased to invite you to celebrate the next holiday of craftsmen "St. Spiridon " ( December 12, 2018 ) Wednesday at 10:00 am in the courtyard of REM - Plovdiv .

Day of St. Spyridon is known in the country as "The Day of the masters." He is revered as patron of potters, shoemakers, tilers, brick makers, weavers, tailors, copper smiths, and all other craftsmen. According to some local legends he was once a shoemaker , tailor or potter .

In Plovdiv traditionally crafts General Association celebrates St. Spyridon . At the end of the nineteenth century ethnographer Dimitar Marinov noted that " every one guild has a year under a saint who is considered the patron of the guild and occupation , and the day of this saint celebrate. When approached this hearty holiday "chaushinat" of the guild , by order of Chief Master will go from shop to shop with philistine box to collect money that is needed to celebrate the service philistine . " .

' This celebration ever happened like this: On the holiday itself will make decorated and mottled , and will refer it to church for health. " The whole procession was accompanied by musicians and many citizens . Feast of guilds accompanied by citywide national festivities.
